S(A)X HISTORY

After 35 years in the leather business S(A)X is for sale. I am now looking for someone to buy the business and it to the next level!

The first S(A)X Leather shop was opened on the 29th July 1979 at Birkenhead Point Drummoyne, prior to this Sax products had been sold at Paddington Markets and selected retail outlets.

S(A)X Leather Oxford Street opened on the 8th May 1983.

Originally the shop sold only leather crafts such as bags, belts, sandals and shoes. In 1985 the direction of the shop changed, after the closure of “The Link" shop, a Fetish S & M type leather store. Sax Leather began selling an up market range of leather clothing and accessories catering primarily for the S & M market.

Within a very short time the name S(A)X became know through out the world as quality manufacturers and retailers of this type of goods. This reputation was further endorsed in 1995, by the first Award Winning S(A)X Leather catalogue and in 1997 by the S(A)X Leather Internet Site.

In 2003 the S(A)X web site was a top ten finalist in the Channel 9 Business Sunday awards.

The manufacturing was moved to Byron Bay in 1995, to enable expansion of the factory area and obtain a more reliable work force.

After eighteen years of business the Oxford Street shop was sold in 2001. The company has since been concentrating on Web Marketing and Wholesale trade, with sales in both areas showing marked increases.

In 2002 the company opened a factory warehouse selling in addition to the full range of S(A)X products a range of Adult Toys. This retail business plus the trade show and internet business has added greatly to the profitability of the overall business.

In 2003 after eighteen months of legal argument with “saks fifth avenue” the S(A)X trade mark was registered. Recently followed by the registration of "Sax Leather" as an Australian trade Mark.

Reasons for Sale

After nearly 35 years in the leather business, I think it's time to relax a little, I don't want to give up working, I just think it is time to enjoy life.

The manufacturing and web site could operate in any location in the world.

Should the new owner want to keep the business in Byron Bay I would be very happy to work, but for only 15-20 hours a week. If the new owner wished to move the business then I would be prepared to negotiate an arrangement.
