Ulli Richter has a passion for photography. Born in a small East German village on the Czech border , he was widely travelled as a child, accompanying his parents on travel expeditions to most countries in Eastern Europe. This fostered his interest in photography , particularly travel photography which led him to develop a broad portfolio of architectural work.
But this was just the beginning. A keen learner and connoisseur of lifes experiences, Ulli sought a freer form of photographic expression. With the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 came fundamental changes in his personal life like for so many other artists. Having been confined by the restraints of a communist society, he was now free to look for more challenging means of artistic expression.
Ulli moved to London in 1995 and today the main bulk of his professional work encompasses the fascinating world of Londons subcultures. Whether its quirky or kinky, Ulli applies the highest standards of traditional skill to produce images with a dark edge while also continuing to cater to more commercial projects.
Photography is like a ritual and I consider myself fortunate to be allowed a deep insight into the soul of many an amazing individual!
Ulli Richter
